Frequently asked questions
Does the converter upload my photos?
Never. Decoding and encoding both happen locally with Canvas and WebAssembly codecs. Turn off Wi-Fi and it still converts — that is the whole point of this site.
Which input formats are supported?
Anything your browser can decode: JPG, PNG, WebP (including animated), AVIF, HEIC/HEIF (iPhone photos), BMP, GIF, SVG and ICO. Output can be any of the eight target formats.
Why is AVIF output sometimes blocked?
AVIF encoding needs a very recent browser. If your browser cannot encode AVIF, the tool tells you and you can pick WebP instead — it is supported everywhere and nearly as small.
Will transparency survive conversion?
PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and SVG keep transparency. JPG does not — use the background color option to flatten transparency onto a solid color.
